What should I expect in the first session?
Your first session is a chance for your therapist to learn about you — your background, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, you’ll begin setting goals for your work together.
If the client is a minor, the first session is typically an Intake with the parent(s) or guardian to understand their concerns and goals for treatment.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions. As progress is made, you and your therapist may decide to meet less frequently.
How long does therapy last?
Every client’s journey is different. Some people work on short-term goals over a few months; others choose ongoing support over a longer period.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in session is confidential under HIPAA law, with a few exceptions required by law (for example, if someone is in danger). Your therapist will explain these limits clearly in your first session.
